Named "Baia Formosa" (Beautiful Bay) by early Portuguese explorers - who were probably to awestruck to be more inventive - Plettenberg Bay is now one of the Garden Route's major destinations, primarily because the Portuguese weren't far wrong. The bay is beautiful. Backed by majestic mountains, it overlooks the moody tidal Keurbooms River lagoon and miles of sandy white beaches whose chrystal blue waters reflect back at the sky. Plettenberg Bay is more than a village, less than a town. Today Plettenberg Bay remains tranquil and charming, hospitable and rather special. Restaurants: Plett has quite a number of great restaurants representing a variety of taste. Italy is represented with a number restaurants offering Pizza's and Pasta's. Furthermore there's also a Mozambiquan restaurant. South African flavours are represented at a couple of restaurants serving great steaks. Nighlife: For those who want to party untill the early hours in the morning there are a couple of bars. Some of the restaurants have their own bar. Furthermore there's a sports bar, a lounging bar and some great opportunities to go dancing in one of the nightclubs.
