Knysna Oyster Festival Programme and Events

The 35th annual Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival will take place from 7 to 16 July 2017 and has been marketed as ‘Best 10 Days of Your Winter’ and began in 1983 as the ‘Knysna Winter Festival’.

The Knysna Oyster Festival attracts not only oyster and wine lovers, but also sports enthusiasts from around the globe. The festival offers more than a 100 events over a 2 week period, such as running, cycling, golfing, adventure racing and even children programmes. The two major sporting events are the Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour and the Momentum Knysna Forest Marathon.

To avoid disappointment it is advised to book your accommodation at Albergo Backpackers in Plettenberg Bay well in advance. Knysna Oyster Festival Fun-Fair

7th Jul – 16th Jul

The Oyster Festival Fun-Fair, which is held at the Festival Pavilion, Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival grounds, Waterfront Drive is open from morning tell evening and offers amusement rides for children and adults alike as well as a ‘Flea Market’, food stalls, local artists, sports, plenty entertainment and a beer and wine tent that hosts the ever famous Oyster Bar.

Hornlee Oyster Festival

7th Jul – 16th Jul

The Hornlee Oyster Festival is held at the Knysna Secondary School field and hall, and is a community based fringe festival, featuring local artists, food stalls, a beer tent, Miss and Mr Knysna Oyster, a gala dinner sport and entertainment.

MTB Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour

8th Jul

The MTB Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour is held at the Waterfront Drive Show Grounds. The first start begins at 08:00

Routes: 80 km, 50 km, 30 km & 15 km PLUS 30 km E-bike

This year the MTB events will include a 30 km E-bike route, the first E-bike event in the country!

There will also be an exciting new route for the 15 km race!

The MTB race takes you through sections of the Knysna Forest and scenic farmland.

The Simola Phantom Forest Night Run

8th Jul
5:30 pm – 10:30 pm

The Simola Phantom is run on a Full Moon lit night with the illumination of Ledlenser Headlamps.

The Phantom Night Run includes trail runners as well as active people of all ages who love the Forest. The Night Run is Saturday, 8th of July for a 6 or 12 km Forest run or walk. Thereafter you will be hosted in the warmth of Simola Club House and spoilt with a steaming hot meal.

Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour Road Races

The Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour Road Races will be held at the Festival Pavilion, Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival grounds. First races start at 08:00

Routes: 115 km and 50 km

NEW Categories: 115 km & 50 km MTB categories

This year for the first time, due to demand, we have introduced MTB categories to the 109 km and 50 km Road Race events!

The challenging 115 km road race on Sunday 9 July will follow the route introduced three years ago, which was designed for enthusiastic, competitive roadies. It takes cyclists from Knysna to Sedgefield, Karatara and Barrington, and back to Knysna.

The 50 km road race route is from Knysna to Sedgefield and back along the N2.

Elephant Free Range Run

9th Jul – 12th Jul

9:00 am – 4:00 pm

The Elephant Free Range Run is 7km and will be held at SANParks Diepwalle Forestry Station, and is an indigenous forest trail through the Knysna Forests that runs through, towering yellowwoods and stinkwoods. Indigenous forest animals such as vervet monkeys, the elusive Knysna Loerie, and who knows, even the mysterious Knysna Elephant! may be spotted.

Spur Rotary Knysna Children’s Cycle Tour

The Spur Rotary Knysna Children’s Cycle Tour will be held at the The Festival Pavilion, Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival Grounds and is an official event of the Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour for children. The race start at 9:00 am and categories include; 2-4 years; 5-7 years; 8-10 years
