Do a township tour in Plett and visit the Qolweni township
Enjoy the local communities arts, crafts and theater while enjoying Tribal culture and Xhosa history. The tour includes a visit to the local spaza shop (small supermarket) and shabeen (tavern that sells alcohol) as well as the Qolweni township backpackers.
The Qolweni development trust with the support of Ocean Blue Adventures is committed to the upliftment and development of the Qolweni community. The funds get raised through theatre performances and township tours. Also a percentage of Ocean Blue Adventures (the whale watching company) turnovers get utilized to pay teachers salaries and towards the maintenance of the Qolweni crèche. This will give all children the opportunity for education they deserve. Their moms can look for employment knowing their children are well looked after and fed. The trust also creates jobs by employing teachers for the crèche. Currently the crèche has a principal and 5 teachers looking after 188 children. Ocean Blue is now in the process of building another classroom to accommodate more children, bringing our number of class rooms to four.
Ocean Blue Adventures understands that Community Development and Upliftment is a very important aspect of implementing our ideals. Their ideals are Realistic and Marine Mammal conservation. Therefore we chose to work together with the most disadvantaged sector of our community through the formation of the Qolweni Community Development Trust.
